The U.S. Division of Power’s Water Energy Applied sciences Workplace (WPTO) final week introduced the 36 groups chosen to take part within the 2025 Hydropower Collegiate Competitors (HCC) and Marine Power Collegiate Competitors (MECC), the biggest cohort of groups thus far. These annual competitions have interaction and educate college students about real-world challenges dealing with these sectors and the various profession alternatives in water energy with the objective of encouraging the subsequent era to affix the hydropower and marine vitality workforces.

Hydropower Collegiate Competitors
Through the 2025 HCC, groups will develop options to transform non-powered dams to hydroelectric dams that may produce between 100 kilowatts and 10 megawatts of energy or assess the feasibility of a possible closed-loop pumped storage hydropower website that may present between 8 and 24 hours of vitality storage. Every group will likely be assigned a hydropower business mentor. Groups will likely be required to finish three challenges and will select to take part in two optionally available challenges.

Every group will likely be assigned a marine vitality mentor and compete in 4 challenges.
